The Testudo formation
The famous tortoise formation is demonstrated by the Guard. Notice the tent in the background. Roman army tents were made of leather, but the Guard found that this would be far too expensive. When spread out on the ground, the material of the tent looks like a butterfly shape, hance the name papilio, from which our word pavilion comes.
