In the glass case this little pot is held up by string, because it has no flat base. It must have been an athlete's oil-pot which he wore hanging from his belt, and presumably hung up somewhere while he was exercising. After his exercise he would rub the oil onto his skin and scrape it off, along with the dirt, with a strigil - I have a photo of a strigil which I'll upload in due course.
