Fire, water, six locks of hair
Just as in modern times, the newly-married couple celebrates with their
friends. First, though, there are a few more traditions to observe. The
groom welcomes the bride into his home with "fire and water," the
basics of civilization. This photo also shows the bride's hairstyle,
curled into six locks, which was supposed to be a sign of a good wife.
It was traditional to part the bride's hair with a spear point to drive
away demons. Since Will happened to have a Roman spear point, they
followed this tradition, much to the perplexity of Pat's hairdresser.
